PRESS RELEASE

On Monday 18 December 2023 at 5.30 pm, the Volume Carl’Antonio Grue (1655-1723) will be presented in the Chapel of the Condemned of the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome. Masterpieces of baroque majolica from the Abruzzo public collections.

The Foundation of the Civic Museums of Loreto Aprutino, together with the Abruzzo Region, the Pescarabruzzo Foundation, the Department of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences of the “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, to the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence, for the Provinces of Chieti and Pescara and to the National Museum of Castel Sant’Angelo, through the implementation of this important one-of-a-kind editorial project, intend celebrate the memory of Carl’Antonio Grue (Castelli 1655 – 1723), undoubtedly considered the most important majolica decorator in the Italian artistic panorama of his time, also well known internationally. The volume is published on the occasion of the third centenary of his death, thanks to the support offered by the Abruzzo Region.

The approach we wanted to favor for this monograph included in the “Art and Culture” series of the Pescarabruzzo Foundation was to highlight the work of the great Castellano master in relation to the public collections present in the Abruzzo area, underlining the importance that these assume in documenting and promoting the high value of his work.

The Acerbo Museum of Loreto Aprutino, through the implementation of this ambitious cultural initiative and through the close collaboration established with the Costantino Barbarella Art Museum of Chieti, the Capitolare Museum of Atri, the Castelli Ceramics Museum, the R Museum Foundation Paparella Treccia and M. Devlet of Pescara, has assumed the role of leader and referent of the regional public collections, in the activity of dissemination and valorisation of the considerable ceramic heritage, located throughout the Abruzzo territory and preserved in the museums mentioned above.

The volume edited by Pierluigi Evangelista, director of the Civic Museums of Loreto Aprutino and Maria Cristina Ricciardi of the Department of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences of the “G. d’Annunzio” of Chieti-Pescara, is enriched by essays and contributions on museum repertoires.
